Ever heard of the dutch weed burger? Well, we are here to talk about it .

We got an opportunity to try the green coloured burger during our camping at Zeeland, Netherlands.  On our last day of camping, just before we could head back to Eindhoven we decided to have a quick lunch at the cafe in Aloha Beach. The cafe special was the Dutch Weed Burger! On seeing this interesting name, we thought we had to try it. Honestly , going by the name, we thought the weed was the actual weed we get in the coffee shops!( errr…you know everything is legal in Netherlands right ?;) and the menu card also claimed that it is 100% vegetarian! Come what may ,we decided to give it a try. We placed an order for it and waited for it to be served. After a few minutes, We had all sorts of thoughts running through our mind, and we immediately called the waiter and asked him to tell us what exactly goes into this burger. Just to be double sure we are safe! The waiter went inside and called the chef who prepares the burger. The chef came over.  He laughed his lungs out when we asked him if they use actual weed in their burgers.. He assured us its not the harmful weed but sea weed 🙂 He handed over a pamphlet which had a small write up about the burger…

The Dutch Weed Burger

The Dutch Weed Burger is one of the healthiest burgers in the world with seaweed as a tasty seasoning .The soft patty is made of salty soy chips and Royal Kombu, a powerful winter weed, sustainably grown in Oosterschelde National Park. The roasted crispy O-mega bun bright green color of the Chlorella – a microalgae packed good protein and omega fatty acids. The taste is complemented by their own creamy Sauce Sea enriched with sea lettuce, fresh summer weed. The burger is 100% vegetable, so vegetarian, vegan, kosher and halal. They use soybeans from controlled cultivation in North America.
Their Sea Sauce is made from organic ingredients and beautiful sustainable sea lettuce.

Facts about the Seaweed-

  • It comes from the sea, grows on sunlight and is one of the most powerful plants on this planet.
  • This “fruit of the sea ‘is an essential addition to the vegetable cuisine, the high quality protein, omega fatty acids and minerals it contains.
  • Seaweed is called the new green gold and many scientists believe that this green plant can save our planet. Reason being, Seaweed is a high quality protein source, the production has no valuable farmland confiscated and it consumes hardly any fresh water.

Taste wise, the burger was okay ! Something i am glad we tried out but given a chance , we  would not order it again .It was super fresh and the moment we digged into it we knew we were eating healthy. We loved how fancy the burger looked too. The crunchy green burger is definitely worth a try!  Oh and they were priced at 16 euros ( i guess the most expensive burgers we have had till date)! If you are allergic to gluten, soy, wheat, sesame and mustard then please do not try this out!

Seaweeds are healthy I have read and are used for making sushi, that is the only time I have had it. This sounds tempting, I may give it a try.
